This walk follows the Mundaring Weir View Trail to the lookout and then continues on the Bibbulmun Track, following the Goldfields Pipeline past the Mundaring Weir Hotel to reach the north end of the Weir wall. Cross the 200m long Weir wall, to be rewarded with great views east across the reservoir, and a dramatic view west down Helena River valley. Continue on the Bibbulmun Track to be rewarded at The Golden View Lookout at South Ledge, by the great view back across the historic No. 1 pumping station to the Weir. Pass through lovely mixed forest, with valley views, and descend into Helena River valley down the old Kattamorda Heritage Trail. Pass by the historic No. 1 Pumping Station below the weir wall before climbing a long flight of steps to return to the north end of the wall. A short side diversion can include a visit to the memorial to CY O’Connor, the engineer responsible for the Mundaring Weir, then return to the Discovery Centre.
This is a challenging walk with almost 300m of elevation gain requiring uphill walking; there are some steep, uneven slopes and steps to negotiate, but the existing trails are mostly well formed.
This walk is repeated at 10.30 am (Walk #3A) and 11.00 am (Walk #3B).
